🌟 Introducing Cannon 🌟
Too Good to Cut. Built to Keep.
Canon was never purchased with the intention of becoming a herd boar.
He was acquired as a baby show pig out of the Breeders Best Sale, originally selected as a potential barrow prospect for Houston and the Texas majors for our daughter. However, as time went on and we continued to feed and evaluate him, it became clear that cutting him simply wasn’t an option. He had too many pieces—too much correctness, too much design, and too much long-term value.
So, we made the decision to leave him intact.
Why Canon?
Canon represents exactly the kind of design we believe is winning today—and more importantly, continuing to win as pigs mature.
Structurally, he is one of the most correct animals we currently have on the farm. From his hip through his blade, he is exceptionally well put together. He stays true in his angles, comfortable on his feet and legs, and maintains balance from end to end.
As you would expect in true G5 fashion, Canon is clean and up-headed through his front end, yet still correct in the angles of his shoulder and blade. That balance is what allows us to consistently generate pigs that are attractive up front without giving up function or longevity.
A Boar Built for Feeding
Canon is not a big, fast-growing boar—and that is intentional.
He is a slower, more controlled grower, which is exactly the kind we like for families who prefer to hold onto pigs, manage them, and feed them out rather than rush them. Because of how correct he is structurally, we feel confident pushing feed when needed without worrying about breakdown or loss of flexibility.
He offers:
-
Adequate and genuine bone
-
Proper center body and rib shape
-
Shorter, squarer body proportions
-
A bold hip and a strong, functional hind leg
From above, Canon reads square and true—built like a barrow sire should.
Managed with Patience
Canon has never been pushed. In fact, he spent over a month on a very basic, salvage-type show feed simply to observe how he would grow and develop naturally in his environment. We wanted to see him be himself—and he has impressed us every step of the way.
Availability & Use
Canon should be ready to go the first week of February. Semen will be limited, especially early, as we are committed to using him heavily in our own program. Interest has been strong, but we are mindful not to put unnecessary pressure on a young boar through over-collection.
Canon is one we believe in—because he earned it.
Not hype.
Not luck.
Just a damn good one.
